A 1986 Star Michael Jordan #2 in a BGS 9.5 slab drew 57 bids and sold for $19,100 on Sunday. The day’s biggest Jordan number came from a card that drew none.

Why it matters

An auction price and a fixed price are not the same signal. The Star card was bid to $19,100 by 57 competing buyers; the $28,500 Michael Jordan rookie was a number one seller set and one buyer accepted. Sunday put a clean example of each at the top of the board.

The Star card is the “Collegiate Stats” #2 with the uncorrected error, and the Beckett label reads 9.5 GEM MINT. The Fleer #57 was not alone either: a second copy, this one graded SGC 6, sold the same day for $9,950. Same card, same Sunday, two grades apart.

Reality check

The seller lists the Star card as a rookie card. The hobby’s benchmark Jordan rookie is the 1986-87 Fleer #57 — the other card in this story.
