Mr. T’s Rocky III robe and Iceman’s Top Gun helmet lead Goldin’s movie memorabilia sale

Mr. T’s production-made Rocky III boxing robe and shorts sold for $114,999 in a Goldin entertainment memorabilia auction that closed Oct. 28. Val Kilmer’s “Iceman” flight helmet from Top Gun brought $106,250, Auction Report reported on Oct. 29.
The sale mixed film costumes, props and one notable card. A 1931 Mickey Mouse newspaper premium picture card signed by Walt Disney sold for $81,250, tying a signed pair of Rocky IV boxing shoes for third place.

The Iceman helmet’s second trip
ComicBook.com reported in April that an Iceman helmet was the headline lot of Goldin’s Spring Pop Culture Auction, which closed June 17. Neither outlet says whether the helmet sold this time is the same one, or what happened to it in June. Collectors should ask Goldin for the lot’s sale history before reading anything into the price.
Why it matters
Goldin is best known for sports cards, but this sale shows how far its pop culture business reaches. The Rocky lots also show how sports and film memorabilia overlap. Boxing films draw both movie collectors and fight collectors.
In our view, the Disney-signed card is the result card collectors should note. A 1931 premium card with a Walt Disney signature matched or beat every lot except the two headline costumes. It also beat Brando’s Superman costume by more than $50,000.
One auction’s results aren’t a market index. Single bidding wars can set prices that don’t repeat.
By the numbers
- $114,999: Mr. T’s Rocky III robe and shorts, the top lot
- $106,250: Val Kilmer’s Top Gun helmet
- $81,250: Walt Disney-signed 1931 Mickey Mouse premium card
- 2: Rocky films in the top four lots (Rocky III and Rocky IV)
- 10: lots listed in Auction Report’s results summary
What collectors should do
- Ask for production documentation. “Production-made” and “screen-worn” are different claims. Get the paperwork that backs the label.
- Check signature authentication separately on signed items like the Disney card and Rocky IV shoes.
- Look up prior sales. Big movie pieces often return to auction. A past result gives you a starting point.
