A PSA 9 Fleer rookie drew 59 bids and $50,209.56 on Sunday — and still finished second.

A 1986 Fleer #57 Michael Jordan rookie graded PSA 9 sold for $50,209.56 on Sunday after 59 bids — the most notable of 511 qualifying single-card Jordan sales we tracked that day. It was not the day’s largest price.

Why it matters

The biggest number and the most interesting one came from different cards. A 1984-85 Star #101 graded BGS 8.5 took $125,299.00 on 34 bids — the first Jordan card ever issued, and the only one older than the Fleer rookie. Both figures are confirmed paid prices, not asking prices, which is the distinction that decides which of the two is actually informative.

By the numbers

  • 511 — qualifying single-card Jordan sales on Sunday: 357 auctions, 76 buy-it-now listings and 78 accepted best offers.
  • $1,062,309.77 — confirmed paid across 433 of those sales, at a $760.00 median.
  • 86 bids — the day’s most contested card, a 1996-97 Flair Showcase Hot Shots Jordan at $4,045.00 carrying no numeric grade.

Zoom in

The same rookie cleared at two different graders on the same day. The PSA 9 took $50,209.56; a BGS 9 copy of the identical 1986 Fleer #57 took $27,423.00 on 22 bids. Graders are not interchangeable, and the same number on two labels does not describe the same market.

Reality check

We are not quoting a comparable-sales multiple for the lead card. The 1986 Fleer baseline pool ran from $65.00 to $114,999.00 across 106 sales — a 2.68x interquartile spread against our 2.5x ceiling. A pool that wide is several Fleer products averaged together, not one card’s market, and a multiple drawn from it would look rigorous while being wrong. It is the same error as valuing a company against a peer group that spans several industries, which is why OptimistFi runs the same evidence-led approach to stocks.

What's next

Our trailing sample now spans 87 days and 129 sales at a $510.00 median, against Sunday’s $760.00 confirmed median. Watch whether that gap holds through the week; Saturday’s edition is the most recent comparison point.

How we track this

RazMania monitors completed eBay sales daily, filtering out multi-card lots, reprints, cross-listed items and non-card merchandise to isolate genuine single-card sales. Prices are final sold prices. No comparable-sale median is quoted for this card: the 1986 Fleer baseline pool was too widely dispersed to defend, and we would rather print nothing than a number we cannot stand behind. The trailing sample behind this column spans 87 days, not 90. eBay reports sold date, not sold time.
