Six copies of the 1987-88 Fleer sticker #2 closed Sunday. A PSA 9 took $3,461.99; an ungraded copy took $400.00 on a single bid.

Six confirmed-paid copies of the 1987-88 Fleer Stickers #2 Michael Jordan closed Sunday, and the distance between the top and the bottom was 8.65x. A PSA 9 took $3,461.99 on 25 bids. An ungraded copy took $400.00 on one bid — a gap of $3,061.99.

Why it matters

That is the widest multiple and the biggest dollar gap of the 14 same-card comparisons that cleared on Sunday, and nearly all of it is the grade rather than a mispricing. A slabbed PSA 9 and an unslabbed copy are not the same product to a buyer, and this market prices them that way — see the rest of our sports collectibles coverage for how consistently.

By the numbers

$3,461.99 — the PSA 9, on 25 bids.
$400.00 — the dearer of two ungraded copies, on a single bid. The other took $360.00 on 18 bids.
$565.73 — the median confirmed-paid Michael Jordan sale across the whole day, for scale.

Every same-card comparison that cleared our floors on the October 18 sales day, strongest evidence first. Both figures in each row are confirmed paid prices that closed that day. One further machine-qualified comparison was withheld by hand: a 1993 Upper Deck Pro View 3-D #23 is a different product from a 1993 Upper Deck #23, and our matcher had keyed the two together. Three rows rest on a dearer side that drew no bids, one row’s cheaper side drew none, and on one row neither side drew a bid — on those rows the multiple is an asking price over a sale price.

Reality check

The control group is in the pile we refused. Two PSA 8 copies of the 1986-87 Fleer #57 rookie closed $400.00 apart on Sunday — $17,700.00 on 42 bids against $17,300.00 on 37 bids, a 1.02x spread. Six same-card comparisons were blocked for being too close to print, and both sides were contested on every one of them. When the label matches, this market agrees to within a few percent. The lead’s 8.65x is the price of a label, not the shape of a bargain.

Zoom in

The cheap side is the weak side. The $400.00 raw copy drew exactly one bid, while the other raw copy drew 18 bids at $360.00 — so the better-discovered raw price is the lower one. A PSA 6 of the same sticker then closed at $386.00 on 43 bids — under the $400.00 raw copy and over the $360.00 one. The slab did not always win.

What's next

The middle of the ladder is the firmest part of it: two PSA 8 copies closed at $837.00 on 35 bids and $825.00 on 13 bids. That is the number to watch if more copies surface this week. Saturday’s edition ran the same test on a 1995-96 Fleer Metal Slick Silver.

How we track this

RazMania compares completed eBay sales of the same card that closed on the same day. Two sales are treated as the same card only when the player, year, set, card number, parallel or photo variation, print-run serial, autograph status and altered status all match — so a Refractor is never compared against a base card. Best Offer sales are excluded entirely, because eBay publishes the seller’s asking price on those and never the settled figure; every price here is a confirmed paid price. Multi-card lots, reprints and customs are filtered out. We quote no comparable-sales median and no 90-day pool — both prices in every comparison closed on the same day. eBay reports sold date, not sold time.
