Same Jordan Card, Same Day: $2,363 and $521

Two copies of the 1997-98 Metal Universe #23 Jordan closed Thursday at $2,362.89 and $521.00. Four more copies sold the same day.
A PSA 9 copy of the 1997-98 Skybox Metal Universe #23 Michael Jordan sold for $2,362.89 on Thursday, on 17 bids. An ungraded copy of the same card closed the same day for $521.00, on 14 bids.
Why it matters
Most of a 4.54x gap like this is the grade itself, which collectors already price in. The useful part is the rest of the cohort: six copies of this card traded Thursday, and once the grade was held fixed the market barely disagreed with itself. A second PSA 9 closed at $2,349.99, so the graded price was set by two sales rather than one.
By the numbers
- $1,841.89 — the gap between the graded and the ungraded copy.
- 4.54x — the widest multiple among the day’s 8 publishable pairs.
- 26 pairs — same-card pairs found Thursday; 8 cleared the spread floors.

Zoom in
The cohort under the lead runs six deep: PSA 9 at $2,362.89 and $2,349.99, a PSA 6 at $549.99, then ungraded copies at $521.00, $400.00 and $317.92. The cheapest copy of the six drew 35 bids, more than either PSA 9 attracted. A card can be the most contested listing in its own cohort and still settle at the bottom of it.
The intrigue
The day’s biggest dollar gap never reached the table. A PSA 7 1986 Fleer #57 Jordan rookie sold for $11,600.00 on 28 bids against a $4,494.00 copy on 16 bids — $7,106.00 apart at 2.58x. The cheaper listing’s title reads “PSA AA”, which is not a grade this engine can read, so the pair was refused rather than printed as graded against ungraded. It was one of 7 sales Thursday whose titles name a grading service in a form we cannot parse.
Reality check
Three of the 8 pairs rest on a dearer side that drew no bids, and one — the 2003-04 Topps #221 LeBron James rookie — had neither side contested. Those are asking prices somebody met, not auctions that found a price. For contrast, 5 pairs were refused for being too close together: same card, same grade, both sides contested, at 1.03x, 1.08x, 1.09x, 1.13x and 1.14x. That is what one card in one grade actually does in a single day, and it is the measure the wider gaps above should be read against.

How we track this
RazMania compares completed eBay sales of the same card that closed on the same day. Two sales are treated as the same card only when the player, year, set, card number, parallel or photo variation, print-run serial, autograph status and altered status all match — so a Refractor is never compared against a base card. Best Offer sales are excluded entirely, because eBay publishes the seller’s asking price on those and never the settled figure; every price here is a confirmed paid price. Multi-card lots, reprints and customs are filtered out. We quote no comparable-sales median and no 90-day pool — both prices in every comparison closed on the same day. eBay reports sold date, not sold time.
