Same Jordan Card, Same Sunday, $15,102 Apart

A PSA 10 1988-89 Fleer Jordan took $15,388 on 55 bids. An ungraded copy of the same card took $286 on 53.
Two copies of the 1988-89 Fleer Michael Jordan #120 closed on eBay on Sunday. The PSA 10 drew 55 bids and $15,388. The ungraded copy drew 53 bids and $286 — a $15,102 gap on the same card, on the same day. It is the widest of the 12 same-card pairs we could stand behind, and wider than anything in Saturday’s edition.
Why it matters
Both sides of the lead pair were open auctions with more than 50 bidders, so neither figure is one seller’s asking price. That makes it a clean read on what a top grade is worth on a junk-wax-era Jordan. The gap is the grade itself, not an inefficiency anyone can trade.
By the numbers
- $15,388 to $286 — the whole #120 ladder that day: PSA 10 $15,388, PSA 9 $1,825 on 41 bids, PSA 8 $675, ungraded $286.
- 17 copies — the 2003-04 Topps #221 LeBron James rookie traded 17 times, from a $7,100 PSA 10 down to a $650.55 raw copy.
- 12 of 23 — machine-generated pairs that survived review. The other 11 were two different cards wearing one card number.
Zoom in
The 1986-87 Fleer Sticker #8 Jordan rookie sold in three different slabs on the same day: PSA 7 at $3,152, SGC 7 at $2,153, BGS 6 at $1,825. The ungraded copy took $999.95. Four rungs of one ladder, priced in a single day.
Reality check
Three of the day’s widest same-grade spreads were not spreads at all. Metal Universe and Metal Universe Championship are separate 1997-98 products that share card #23, and the matcher read them as one card. Separate them and the base card agrees with itself: two PSA 8 copies both closed at $1,300, and two PSA 7 copies closed at $780 and $775 on 24 and 22 bids.
What's next
Watch the tight end of the table, not the wide end. The 1996 Topps Stadium Club Special Forces #SF4 pair shows why: the $1,350 sale was a fixed price with no bidding, while a 64-bid auction for the same PSA 7 card closed $325 lower. More of these land daily on the sports collectibles desk.

How we track this
RazMania compares completed eBay sales of the same card that closed on the same day. Two sales are treated as the same card only when the player, year, set, card number, parallel or photo variation, print-run serial, autograph status and altered status all match — so a Refractor is never compared against a base card. Best Offer sales are excluded entirely, because eBay publishes the seller’s asking price on those and never the settled figure; every price here is a confirmed paid price. Multi-card lots, reprints and customs are filtered out. We quote no comparable-sales median and no 90-day pool — both prices in every comparison closed on the same day. eBay reports sold date, not sold time. Eleven further candidate pairs were withheld after review because the two sides were not the same card.
