The same Jordan insert sold for $2,325 and $525

Two copies of the 1996-97 Fleer Ultra Full Court Trap #1 closed Saturday at $2,325.00 and $525.00 — and a third, a PSA 7, brought $575.00.

Two copies of the 1996-97 Fleer Ultra Full Court Trap #1 Michael Jordan closed on eBay the same Saturday: a PSA 9 at $2,325.00 on 18 bids, and an ungraded copy at $525.00 on 29 bids. A third copy of the same insert, graded PSA 7, sold for $575.00.

Why it matters

This is what certification costs, priced in public. Both Jordan copies drew real bidding, so neither figure is one seller’s asking price — the 4.43x gap is two rooms of buyers reaching different conclusions about the same piece of cardboard. Most of that gap is the grade itself rather than a mispricing.

By the numbers

The deepest cohort of the day was the 1988-89 Fleer #17, a junk-wax-era Jordan, with 8 copies sold. Two PSA 9s closed at $999.00 and $980.00 — but the $999.00 was a fixed-price listing and the $980.00 drew 25 bids. A third PSA 9, listed with an off-centre qualifier, brought $575.00, and an ungraded copy on 39 bids took $339.23.

Reality check

The most contested card in any pair we built never made the table. Two graded copies of the 1988-89 Fleer #120 All-Star closed at $773.00 on 17 bids and $720.00 on 50 bids — a 1.07x spread and a $53.00 gap, well under our floors. 50 bids is the heaviest bidding we tracked all day, and it produced almost no spread. What's next

The widest gap Saturday was LeBron’s: a PSA 10 2003-04 Topps Draft Pick #221 rookie at $7,026.99 on 25 bids against an ungraded copy at $800.00 — 8.78x across a cohort of 7. How we track this

RazMania compares completed eBay sales of the same card that closed on the same day. Two sales are treated as the same card only when the player, year, set, card number, parallel or photo variation, print-run serial, autograph status and altered status all match — so an insert is never compared against a base card. Best Offer sales are excluded entirely, because eBay publishes the seller’s asking price on those and never the settled figure; every price here is a confirmed paid price. Multi-card lots, reprints and customs are filtered out. We quote no comparable-sales median and no 90-day pool — both prices in every comparison closed on the same day. 14 pairs cleared our thresholds on this sales day and 12 are published: one was withheld because the cheaper side carries an off-centre grade qualifier our matcher cannot read, and one because the two listings may not describe the same card. eBay reports sold date, not sold time.
