Why it matters

The sticker is not the base card. Jordan’s 1986-87 Fleer rookie run produced two collectible rookie-year items — the #57 base card and the #8 sticker — and they trade as separate markets. Sunday gave a clean read on both at once.

• 427 sales, $617,831.44 — confirmed paid Jordan singles on the day, at a $585 median. A further 99 listings closed as accepted best offers, where eBay publishes only the asking price, so they are excluded from every paid figure here.
• 114 bids — the day’s most contested Jordan card was not a rookie at all, but a 1997-98 Skybox Metal Universe #23 in PSA 8 that closed at $1,400.

Three graded copies of the same 1986 Fleer #57 base rookie cleared on the same day, which is rare enough to be worth reading as a grade ladder: PSA 7 at $12,905 on 32 bids, PSA 8 at $18,433 on 47 bids, and PSA 9 at $54,000 on a buy-it-now with no bidding at all. The two lower grades were fought over in open auctions; the 9 sold outright at the seller’s number.

Reality check

This is one day, and the $10,700 sticker is one sale — not a trend line. It also has no baseline attached. We pulled 115 comparable 1986 Fleer Jordan sales for the lead card and threw the pool out: it ran from $50 to $22,575, which is a pool of several different cards averaged together rather than one card’s market. No multiple is quoted here because there is no honest one to quote.
